The “Lanzarote” series was done after a trip to this wonderful Canary Island. This is volcanic island with more than 300 volcanoes, the oldest ones being sand color and 300 million years old. There are still some active volcanoes, which account for the fields of black lava, which cover most of the island. In between is a whole range of bright orange and reddish hills, contrasting with green sulfurous pools and the blue of the Atlantic Ocean. Incredible color contrasts which lead from pastel sketches on location to a subsequent series of acrylic paintings on canvas.
