In April 2003, I attended a scientific meeting in Bonaire. This is a wonderful island in the Dutch Antilles, where diving is spectacular and flamingos nest. We were staying so close to the water that I would snorkel at 6 am prior to attending the meeting. We stayed a few extra days and I did several small paintings on location. I use acrylic on Yupo paper. This permits the colors to flow and mix on the paper before drying, thereby reflecting the fluid nature of the water all around us. The palette reflects the local tropical colors and the lush vegetation.
